Duma KeyThere was a time that I wasn’t happy with the works put out by Stephen King. It came to a head with the ending of the Gunslinger series. Sure, it was the only way he could end it - but it doesn’t mean I was happy with it, it just seemed like a cop out.At any rate, and it may be that when I was younger, I’m talking middle school Stephen King books were captivating, scary, and offered a great story. But Misery was the starting point of what I felt was his downward spiral. Maybe I was just getting older and it didn’t have the cachet it did when I was younger.

I had no preconception before reading Duma Key, except I wasn’t expecting much of it. But I was pleasantly surprised. Aside from the numerous F bombs and other swearing that seemed a tad bit over used. I thought the story itself was great. The execution was slow but not so slow that you’re annoyed with it. It’s a slow build, to a decent climax but it all seems rather muted. I know it sounds like I didn’t like it, but to me, it built at a good pace and finished at a good pace.

I truly enjoyed the story, and like I keep saying the pace was great. I won’t go into too much detail, because honestly it’s just better to enjoy it anew. Suffice it to say, a man looses and arm and picks up an ominous power. I do wish though, that it would go into more detail about the evil power and it’s back story. You get only an inkling of an idea about it, and this is actually a pet peeve of mine that goes beyond this book and into everywhere. It just seems I never get enough back story on the evil. I NEED MORE!

I had to give it a lower rating because of the swearing.

I think the dark tower was the last one I read, but I read them during those times in German.

I think you might enjoy this one, it’s not as dark as his earlier work - at least in my opinion, but it’s just dark enough
