So, another book already. This one went by in a flash - a few trips back and forth to work and it finished right before I got home. Perfect!
Coming from Duma Key, there was a huge difference in style - granted it may have been the narrator or the speed of the book but you knew it was different right off the bat.
The story, was rather familiar to me even though I haven’t seen the movie yet. I have though seen parts of “The Last Man on Earth” and I’ve seen the complete “Omega Man“. Oh forget the classic “Homega Man“.
Listening to the story, you feel it’s dated. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s a great part of the story, and listening in general. There wasn’t an over endulgence of sex or gore it was very subdued. I think the other piece of it was the technology/terminology used with in the story dates it quite well. You may not even notice it’s dating unless you really pay attention to a couple of things like twin beds in the parents room and the use of a record player. It doesn’t matter though, it doesn’t distract from the story.
I guess I’ll go a little more into the story this time because - well a book review should have something about the story in it right? Alright, so it’s about vampires. I don’t think it’s a secret in the book, and I feel good about giving that away. It’s mostly about one man who survives the outbreak and subsequent decimation of the human race (is concerned in the greater Los Angeles area). I don’t know if other people do what I do when I read books or watch movies I tend to think about how I would do things if it were me in the situation. But I found myself thinking about how I would have dealt with what Nevel went through. I think the ending would have been different (oops fore-shadowing).
I really liked the authors explanation of some of the more common beliefs in what can stop a vampire (the cross, water), it makes you go - DOH when you hear them…why not I say makes sense to me. I think you might do the same if you haven’t read it already.
There’s a lot of Damn’s in the story, and I kept hearing them in Charlton Hestons voice, and then also wishing it was Vincent Price who was narrating. It felt classic to me, and I totally enjoyed it.
Have it go!

No vampires huh?
I read a medieval book awhile back, one of eco embertos books…it was pretty good, though wordy.

Well, I don’t mind good Vampire stories, but I did not particularly care for the movie and can’t imagine liking the book too much after that.
But I might be wrong.
My best friend loves Anne Rice, couldn’t get me drawn in.
But she did send me one novel the other day that was awesome (in German though…).
