I remember when I was a kid coming across art work that my mom had done and was really impressed with her work. As I got older I did my own thing, but as I moved out of high school and in to young adult hood I started giving up my artistic pastime. I’m made some strides to get back into it, but it’s more through photography and design then actual sit down and draw something art. I still from time to time draw (according to my wife and kids) fantastic sketches on Sydney’s Barbie magna doodle.
But more recently, we’ve been sending our boys to a local artist for classes. They both love to draw, and have been doing stuff for years and my wife thought it would be good for them to actually learn proper techniques and how to do things and whatnot.
They stick the new stuff up on the cabinets and show me when I get home, the other week Alex was learning about shadows and the picture he had done was amazing! Then this last week, they were working with chalks again and well…I think you’ll get what he was drawing (if you don’t, it’s a pokemon - pikachu) and from what I know of it, it’s looks EXACTLY like it.
Ethan might not be as into as Alex, but he likes to be with his brother so he draws his own things and does a pretty good job with it, I think with time and more lessons he’ll be as good as his brother.
But here, these are the pictures they’ve done.
Look at that bottle and piece of fruit from Alex! Look at that shadowing! I also love the way he did the chalk on the gun (red background) how it’s lighter around the gun, same with the yellow pikachu. Ethan drew a pokemon too, but he made it blue instead of pink and drew a round car. Awesome stuff!

I love them.
When I was a kid and a teenager I loved to draw too.
But then I never did it again when I got out of school
Hope your kids keep it up.
It’s an awesome outlet!

Hey! What a surprise!
What artist are your kids taking lessons with? I would love to get my boys into lessons.

I’m not at all surprise with Alex’s abilities…he did write his name when he was TWO! They are both incredible!
