How do you write an address?

I don’t think it’s gotten as bad as I’m going to make it out to be, but it’s something to consider for those who use a computer for a majority of their life, and those who have kids who are growing up using computers for everything.
I remember when when I was a kid being graded on penmanship, hey wait - I’m not that old, but I remember taking pride in my small neat cursive and getting marked accordingly. As I grew so did my writing, into a haberdashery of cursive mixed with block letters and scribbles. My signature is never the same even on one document (they loved me when I signed for my house). But what does it matter now? I don’t write much on paper, unless it’s to jot down a note or two or if I have to sign a receipt. In fact, except for the occasional thank you note I don’t think I’ve actually sat down and written a sentence in years.
Well it’s finally caught up to me. I was working on a project and I wanted to format the persons address, thinking that at some this project might want to have the ability to print a label for mailing or to look like a mailing label on screen.
I barely remember the format I learned back in 5th grade and so I tried it out.
name
address
address 2
…..
and that’s where I stopped. I got all caught up on the commas with the city, state, and zip. I know there’s one or two in there, but for the life of me I could not remember. I mean seriously, when was the last time I sent a piece of snail mail?
So I googled it and found a couple of different answers. The one that struck me familiar would have to be the right way, right?
name
[business]
address
[address 2]
city, state
zip
Isn’t that right? Well it looked right to me - but looking at the smug image they have over at the usps I might be wrong.
Though they don’t even specify exactly. But it looks like they completely ignore any commas. I know, why the heck am I getting hung up on this. I’m not really, it’s more to point out that as a computer/on line driven society we may be loosing our paper driven past, as in knowledge of how to write on paper properly. I don’t think I know how to form a proper letter anymore, and I know I don’t remember how to write out a resume format (there’s templates for all that..lol).
So how many things have your forgotten?

I wrote a few postcards last year and the years before, actually some of them turned into letters.
Mainly to send friends some real pictures and some prints from a photo exchange thing.
Don’t ask me for American addresses. German ones are fairly easy

There’s no need to worry about forgetting, that’s what google and our cell phones are for. Right? lol I remember my very first phone number 753-2140, even my friend’s phone numbers 752-3723 753-0008 753-5310 752-4118 from way back when, but do I remember the last phone number I had before now? Not a chance. It’s crazy how many numbers we all had compartimentalized in our little brains…now our brains are stuffed with stupid shit like what rehab Lindsay went to.
ps I do remember how addresses are written, but that’s cause handle all the bills and Arizona Water still doesn’t have an option to pay online, so it’s the one and only check I write every month.

I only have 1 phone number memorized and that’s my wife’s. Other then that if I loose my phone, who-boy I’d be screwed. I can remember back in when I had my pager in the 90’s having to know phone numbers because that’s all you got, but once cell phones hit, that was it - no reason to remember anymore.
