The other day we were out tearing down our old gate so we could rebuild it and get it to actually open and close without too much trouble.

Some how after I got the bolts out holding the gate up, I got tasked with watching the little girl (Sydney), but she wanted to ride on her little trike, so I went about rummaging through the garage to see what my parents had left when they moved. They dumped gave a lot of stuff to us so they could lighten their load during the move.

Well as I was going through, I found an old helmet that had always been a favorite of mine as a kid. It’s a middle eastern type (I only know this because it has some Arabic writing on it). It has a large spike on top and what looks like two feather holders one on each side. It also has some chain mail to protect the sides and back of the wearer’s neck.

So I brought it out and had both boys don the helmet. I had Alex go get his wooden sword and shield to really make the part. Alex liked it, but Ethan said it was too cold for his head.

Now what about those peas in the title, alright I’m getting to those. Well, for those who might remember, we put in a garden box last year (the post is gone, but not forgotten). Well we dropped some peas in earlier this month in both the box and on the ground next to it (snow peas and sugar snaps). Like any Utah farmer, we were a bit worried since it kept snowing and freezing once we planted them that they might not make it. But alas, while I was outside with boys I saw the hardiness of out labors - there’s some plants in dat dar land!

I think these are the snow peas while in the garden box (sorry no picture) the sugar snap peas are looking about the same. Soon we’ll be planting in other stuff, but if I could only find enough land to lay down some wheat!

I see though in the pictures, that the backyard is in serious need of a mow. I guess it’s time to bust out the dormant mower and give it an oil change and set it to work. It the stars align right, I might even have DIY post on changing the oil in a mower!
