This summer has been rather wet and cold. But that’s been a good thing I think. It’s kept that horrid sun from baking our garden and kept us from having to use a ton of water to keep our garden growing. In fact I don’t think we’ve had to really water it more then I have fingers on one of my hands.

But how’s it holding up?

Well let’s look at see.

Strawberry strawberry...the neighborhood... There’s a flower on the strawberries! If it actually works, this will be our first real batch of them. I really hope so, maybe we can make some jam (like we’ll get that many..hahaha). It’s still neat though, and if I’m lucky I’ll actually get one this year. Those kids pick everything before I get home from work.

the great pumpkinThis little thing is our pumpkin. Looks small now, but by the end of summer hopefully it will be the great charlie brown pumpkin. They take a lot of water and so it becomes a problem come high summer when temps can reach into the 100’s (but we’ll see if we can even make it out of the 60’s…)

two peas in a podThe peas have always done good, they were the first thing we planted and came up straight away. We’re still waiting on some pods, but I don’t think it’ll be too long now, both set of plants are doing great and soon the kids will be eating them instead of bringing them in.

POP! Corn
And what do we have here? They look like corn right? C’mon I know you know what corn looks like when it’s first coming out of the ground - don’t we all? Well it’s not just normal, or even ambrosia corn, nope it’s popcorn! Interesting I know, but we thought we’d give it a run for it’s money and see how it turns out.

popeye the sailor man - toot tootPopeye eats this to make him strong. We eat it as a base for our smoothies - I heard that. No, it’s actually pretty good, it gives you a lot of those dark green vitamins in a better tasting drink. Made with juice and berry’s and such. No really it is really good.

that\'s de ol peppaWhile peppers aren’t my favorite, my kids and wife love them. So we thought we better plant a couple of them, seeing as how red and yellows are so freaking expensive.

beans beans the more you eat...

Yes it’s that magical fruit, Beans. I love them right off the vine, but I’m hoping this year I can convince my wife to make some dilly beans. Yeah basically pickled beans, but they’re good, and they’ll last for awhile too, well I mean they could last for a awhile - if I don’t eat them too fast.

tomaccos, no fool they\'re tomatoesTomatoes go fast in our house during the summer. Fresh homegrown have got to be the best things around, not like those store bought nasties. So we put in like 6 tomatoes plants and a tomatillos plant. Though now that I read the wiki page, we need at least one more for them to produce properly.

spaghetti squash and watermelonsSpaghetti squash and the little plants in the back are watermelons. I love watermelon, but it also takes a lot of water to get them to grow nice and good. Maybe I’ll try what the Japanese do and put it in a box and make custom watermelons and sell them for extreme prices. I also like spaghetti squash too, roast it up, top it off with some butter and parmesan cheese, yummy!

raspberrysRaspberrys. Hopefully they’ll produce this year and we’ll get some these too. They can be rather pricey at the store too, for fresh one.

Well I hope you enjoyed our little tour of our little garden. I’ll keep the posts coming as our garden produces too, so you can be jealous of all our fresh garden goodness, while you eat your nasty store bought foods…lol
