The Messiah - for the children

Date March 30, 2008

On Saturday, we had the opportunity to watch The Messiah. Yep, Handel’s Messiah. I had never been to a production of it and really had no idea what it was about.

Was I in for a treat!

Let me give a slight bit of background and context. This was a matinée, it was suppose to be shorter. It turned out that there was a lot of younger visitors. So because of that, one of the conductor’s sons sang the base part - he also happens to be my oldest son’s art teacher (the other brother is in our church). Also, the conductor dressed up as Handel (no one seemed to know he was going to do that). We also were treated to a spanish translation along with, and I think this was the best part, a performance for the hearing impaired.

I want access to all my music - from anywhere!

Date March 18, 2008

How many of you guys love music? How many have a music library at home, and don’t have enough gadgets to carry it all with you every where you go? Yeah me too. I mean sure I have a 2 gig flash drive, a phone that will play MP3’s (2 gigs), I have an Archos that will play audio and video (30 gig) but I still find myself wanting to play something I don’t have stored away on one of my devices - this presents a problem.

Well it looks like I found an answer!

I didn’t think it would have been hard to please me. I only had a few core requirements, everything else would have been icing.

1. I wanted to be able to access my music from anywhere (mainly for work, because…well that’s where I spend a majority of my time).

2. I wanted something simple.

Saturday Discovery…in the world of music

Date February 9, 2008

So here I am eating a turkey and bacon sammich, and tooling around on the laptop - bored, oh yeah you could say so. The dialog of a Barbie Princess (and yes, it IS Martin Short playing the villian) movie playing the background along with merry musings of both my boys building something out Imaginext.

But, as I was cruising through Amazon’s mp3 downloads (no DRM, decent prices - did I mention NO DRM?), I found myself looking in the International section, listening to some pretty fun Buena Vista Social Club (mental list, # 5) and then I found something that caught my eyes. It was a lullaby version of Bob Marley tunes. It wasn’t as good as I thought it might be (granted I only listened to a few songs), but something way better caught my eye lower on the screen.
